Chyhyryn raion

Чигиринський район

Chyhyryn is best know for its gorgeous red and white embroidery, especially the tree of life motif rushnyky.  It also used to produce pysanky, a few of which were collected and recorded by Danylo Shcherbakivskyi in the early 1900s.

Mytsyk and Fysun included five pysanky from the Chyhyryn region in their book, from the village of Erazmivka (Еразмівка). The pysanky below are recreated from their recreations of Shcherbakivskyi’s line drawings. The colors chosen by Fysun were more muted.

Erazmivka is now known as Rozumivka, and is located in neighboring Kirovohrad oblast.

Note: The village of Hrushkivka (Грушківка). was included in Mytsyk and Fusyn’s book; it is now in Kamianka raion.
