Snowflake Pysanky
2016
I had surgery in the fall of 2016, which kept me from doing the strenuous work of putting up a Xmas tree or getting the house ready for my annual holiday bash. I was able to write pysanky, though, and had lots of time for it.
I was unable to get small chicken eggs this year–none of the egg producers sell them in the Detroit market any more–so I wrote on large ones. I wrote 101 snowflakes altogether–one broke, and another didn’t get fully waxed–and ended up with these 99.
I used bright colors this year–we definitely needed something cheerful, so I created my own rainbow:
The colors, in order, were Surma Violet, UGS Turquoise, Chartreuse (UGS Yellow with 2 T of UGS Light Green added), UGS Gold, Brownie’s Yellow (actually orange), UGS Pink, and UGS Red mix (Red + Scarlet in equal parts).
