Mamayivtsi

Мамївці

Mamayivtsi is an old Bukovynian village about which we have records dating to 1580.  There were Trypillian settlements in the area, and it is archeologically rich.  It is also only 10 km along a main road from Chernivtsi, and has become swallowed up into the general Chernivtsi metropolitan area.

These pysanky are also from the collection of Ivan Balan.  Like many Bukovynian pysanky, they feature traditional churches, like the one above (St. John, 1863). All three use the lateral division with a simple dividing band.

(Note: the numeration of these eggs, i.e. the  “Балан - №,” simply reflects the order in which they were photographed and their data recorded.  It is just my bookkeeping system.)
