Писанка

Гарна писанка у мене ––

Мабуть, кращої й нема.

Мамa тілки помагала,

Малювала ж я сама.

Змалювала диву-пташку,

Віцім хрестиків дрібних,

І малесенькі ялинки,

Й поясочок поміж них.

Хоч не зразу змалювала ––

Зіпсивала п’ять яєсь, ––

Та як шосте закінчила,

Тато мовив: «Молодец!»

Я цю писанку, напевно,

Для Івана залишу,

А для мами і для тата

Дві ще кращі напишу.

Pysanka

I have a lovely pysanka,

The nicest that I’ve ever seen

Mother helped a little bit

But I colored it myself.

I drew a wondrous bird

and eight small crosses,

Several tiny fir trees

and a band between them.

Even though it wasn’t my first–

I spoiled five other eggs–

When I finished up the sixth

My father said to me: “Well done!”

And this pysanka I’ll surely

Put aside for Ivan,

And for my mother and my father

Two even nicer ones I’ll write!
