Kherson region

Kherson is located in Ukraine’s southern steppes, and the region is ethnographically part of Prychornomovya (Black Sea Shore) which, with the northern shore of the Sea of Azov, forms a distinct ethnographic southern Ukrainian region.  The hinterlands were settled late compared to much of Ukraine, while many of the ports were Greek and Italian settlements.  There is a strong tatar influence as well.

The pysanky from this region are fairly simple, geometric, and often have wave motifs. The region is quite large, though, so it is difficult to generalize.
