Korsun raion

Корсуньський район

 
 

This raion is in north central Cherkasy oblast, just below Kaniv raion.  I am not sure why they put “Shevchenkiskyi” in the name; Shevchenko does not appear to have spent much time here (if any). 

This area used to produce pysanky, a few of which were collected and recorded by Danylo Shcherbakivskyi in the early 1900s.

Mytsyk and Fysun included two pysanky from the Korsun region in their book, from the village of Huta (Гута), which is now known as Nova Buda (Нова Буда) (
). The pysanky below are recreated from their interpretations of Shcherbakivskyi’s line drawings.
