Goose Eggs

 
 

The goose eggs below were written in 2015, and combine pysankarstvo and etching.  The design was based on something I found online; it was written with wax on a goose egg, and then etched until there was significant relief.  The background was then dyed blue, and the wax removed.

The original, it turns out, was actually a pysanka of Iryna Vakh’s:


Her pysanka was written on a chicken egg; mine was written on a small goose egg.

Etching can be a challenge, because the eggshell can be thinner in places.  On one of the eggs, I did etch over a thin spot, and broke through the shell.  Luckily for me, pysanky have two sides......
