The vazon (“potted plant”) is actually a version of the tree of life, and is an ancient version of the berehynia motif. It is very commonly seen in traditional Ukrainian pysanky and embroideries.  Lubow Wolonetz of the Ukrainian Museum in NY has written an entire book on this subject called “The Tree of Life, The Sun, The Goddess: Symbolic Motifs in Ukrainian Folk Art.”

Versions of the vazon are sometimes seen in diasporan eggs as well.
